ECO TOC - Sustainability, green operations & energy efficiency

ECO TOC

Public sentiment, international policy, government legislation and sheer good business practice are converging to catapult sustainability and green operations up the corporate agenda. Launching at TOC CSC Asia 2012, ECO TOC will provide focused seminars and debates on sustainability issues across the container supply chain. Get the latest insights into cargo owner strategies, what green means for logistics planning and execution, and how shipping, ports and terminals are addressing the issues.

From procurement to delivery, major retail brands and manufacturers are embedding sustainability goals and metrics into their supply chain operations, and seeking support from their providers of international logistics, shipping and transport services.  Shipping is under ever-increasing international pressure to adopt new solutions and technologies that will reduce fossil fuel emissions and other pollutants. Ports and terminals, as a nexus of activity in international maritime transport chains, are equally challenged to reduce the interlinked environmental and social impact of their operations. ECO TOC sessions at TOC CSC Asia 2012 will explore new thinking, approaches and technologies to rise to the sustainability challenge.

10:00-12:00 | ENERGY & ENVIRONMENTAL EFFICIENCY: NEW THINKING & TECHNOLOGIES AT THE CONTAINER TERMINAL

How can container terminals reduce their dependency on fossil fuels to deliver cleaner, more energy-efficient cargo handling operations with lower energy bills, less impact on surrounding communities and a smaller carbon footprint?

Key Issues:

arrow

Case study: How Hong Kong terminals are pursuing paths to greater environmental efficiency  both individually and collectively and lessons for other terminal clusters

arrow Towards “zero emissions” - electrification of handling equipment and vessel operations
arrow Tools for benchmarking and measuring port environmental performance
arrow Managing the energy demands of grid-intensive operations
arrow From grey power to green power – options for renewable energy generation

Moderator: Veronica Booth, Senior Project Manager, Civic Exchange

Speakers:

Oscar Wang, Assistant General Manager, Shekou Container Terminals
Charles Tan, Regional Safety & Environment Advisor, DP World Asia
Simon K W NG, Visiting Scholar, Institute for the Environment, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
Han Li, Director of Ports & Marine, Emerson Control Techniques

15:00-16:30 | ENABLING GREEN & SUSTAINABLE CARGO CHAIN PERFORMANCE

bsr

Organised with the Clean Cargo Working Group and BSR

Run exclusively for TOC Events by the Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG), a coalition of shippers, 3PLs and shipping lines all working under the common goal of supply chain sustainability, this debate will outline key drivers and initiatives for improving the environmental credentials of container logistics and transport.

Key issues:

arrow Driving sustainable supply chain behaviour through the logistics and transport chains
arrow What do shippers want from their logistics and transport partners – and what are they prepared to pay?
arrow Defining clean cargo: tools for benchmarking and measuring logistics chain performance
arrow Sustainable logistics in operation
